Solar PPA FAQs
Power Purchase Agreements
Pre-purchase & Installation
Q. Will my roof be able to take the Load of the Solar System?
A. All Solar Systems are certified by a structural engineer prior to installation.
Q. Do I have to insure or maintain the Solar System?
A. NO. We fully insure the system and as we own it we are fully responsible for the maintenance and good working order of the system. Remember if the system is not working we are not charging you for any consumption so it is in our interest to ensure the Solar system is in excellent working order delivering you cheaper, greener power whenever there is day light!
Q. How does a Solar PPA deliver cheaper electricity then my current Retailer?
A. It is simple. You already buy an amount of electricity required to run your business.
If you buy 100,000 kWh a year from you current energy retailer, at an average rate of 30 c/kWh, you would pay $30,000 – plus fixed costs.
If you have a Solar PPA and it delivers you behind-the-meter 50,000 kWh for the year, then you would only buy the remaining 50,000 kWh from your energy retailer.
If you paid 15 c/kWh for electricity provided onsite by solar then you would pay 50,000 kWh x 30 c/kWh from your energy retailer and the other 50,000 kWh @ 15 c/kWh from your Solar PPA. Your new cost for the same electricity would be (50000 x 0.30) + (50000 x 0.15) = $22,500 saving you $7,500 a year.
Q. Do I consume all the electricity generated onsite by solar first before taking electricity from the grid?
A. Yes.If you have a need for electricity i.e. a load, then you will consume the electrons produced by the Solar power system first and then whatever Solar cannot provide, you will then take the balance from the grid.
Q. What happens at the end of my Solar PPA contract term?
A. The Solar PPA moves to an evergreen status with yearly a auto renew term. You can give 90 days’ notice to end the contract at any time. If you end the contract we will come and remove the Solar system and make good, returning the site to how it was preinstall. Alternatively you can make an offer to buy out the system and benefit from the remaining system life (Panel System Life is 25-30 years from new).
Q. Does my consumption of electricity change if I have a Solar PPA?
A. You will be able to reconcile power bills based on data received from the meters installed onsite to measure generation, usage and export.
Maintenance
Q. If the solar power system is not working, do I have to pay anything?
A. NO. Under a Green Power Fund Solar PPA, you only have to pay for electricity you consume. If the system is not working or you are not using electricity at any time, then the Solar PPA is costing you nothing, NIL, ZIP!

Q. What happens if my energy retailer electricity rate falls below my Solar PPA Rate?
A. All Green Power Fund Solar PPA’s have a fail-safe to protect you if electricity prices fall during the term of your Solar PPA contract. Refer to our “Best Rate Guarantee” Terms and Conditions. We offer that our Solar PPA rate must always be 10% cheaper than your average daytime grid electricity rate you receive from your electricity retailer.
Q. How do I know my Solar PPA bill is accurate?
A. We use meters to measure the electricity the Solar System generates and we net this off with your gate meter data provided by your electricity retailer to confirm if there is any export.
Q. Can I buy out the system ownership anytime?
A. Yes, every PPA contract has an agreed depreciating price that includes any STC rebate benefit previously received. The purchase price will depend on the age of the system.

A. The buy out price will reflect the STC rebate received and you will only have to pay the lower system purchase priced.
Q. What happens when I use less electricity and then the Solar PPA exports excess power ? Does this cost me more ?
A. If you use less electricity than the solar energy system is producing at any time, the excess electricity will export to the grid and this will cost you nothing.
However, depending on the terms of your Solar PPA, you may need to remit any feed in tariff benefit you receive from your energy retailer to Green Power Fund at the same value (NIL COST TO YOU).
Q. Do I have to pay for any electricity I don’t use that exports to the grid?
A. No. However, depending on your Solar PPA terms, you may need to remit to Green Power Fund any benefit you receive from your energy retailer from any feed in tariff paid to you.
Q. Do I still receive one power bill if I proceed with a Solar PPA?
A. No, you will now receive 2 bills;
One bill from us for the cheaper green electricity you consume onsite and behind the meter, and;
one from your electricity retailer for power you consume from the grid.
The bills format will look very similar.
Q. What happens if I choose to end my contract?
A. You will be required to buy the system out at a predetermined depreciated price unless you have a special condition allowing you to end the contract if you are no longer the occupant of the premises.
Q. If I buy out the System what happens to the LGC benefit remaining?
A. Any LGC benefit not claimed in future years will transfer back to you once you have purchased the system.
